Nobles County Rejects $4bn Data Center Proposal

Minnesota
Despite its ambitious goals, the Nobles County Powered Data Park project has been withdrawn following a decisive vote by local officials.
In April 2026, the Nobles County Board of Commissioners rejected a critical text amendment to the county’s zoning ordinance that would have allowed data centers within agricultural preservation areas. This legislative roadblock effectively halts Geronimo Power's $4 billion "power-first" vision for the 959-acre site, as the county opted not to add data centers as a permitted conditional use.
Consequently, the projected 2027 groundbreaking has been canceled, and the developer is expected to scout alternative locations outside the county.
Geronimo Power (formerly National Grid Renewables) develops, owns and operates large-scale power assets throughout America’s Heartland, including solar, wind and energy storage. As a farmer-founded and community-focused business, Geronimo Power equips landowners and rural communities with sustainable revenue to ignite local economic growth. Geronimo Power is a portfolio company managed by Brookfield Asset Management.
