The Texas Tech University System is collaborating with Fermi America to develop the world’s largest advanced energy and AI campus near Amarillo, a pioneering project.
Spanning 5,800 acres near the Pantex Plant, the Advanced Energy and Intelligence Campus will feature 18 million square feet of AI data centers, powered by gigawatts from nuclear, solar, wind, and natural gas sources.
The Amarillo location was chosen for its access to major natural gas pipelines, high-speed fiber, strong solar potential, and proximity to one of the nation’s largest natural gas fields. Geotechnical work is underway, with the first gigawatt of capacity expected online by late 2026.
The campus will combine nuclear energy, a combined-cycle natural gas plant, solar power, utility grid access, and battery storage on an unprecedented scale.

Fermi America is developing advanced electric grids designed to provide highly redundant, gigawatt-scale power for next-generation artificial intelligence applications. Its primary project, the HyperGrid™ campus in Amarillo, Texas, is planned as a large-scale energy and AI complex. This facility aims to integrate nuclear, natural gas, utility, solar, and battery power sources. With a projected capacity of 11 gigawatts and 18 million square feet of AI infrastructure, Fermi America intends to establish a significant position in both energy and artificial intelligence sectors.
