The Statesville City Council unanimously approved the rezoning request for the Compass Datacenters project on 330 acres of land near Stamey Farm Road. This decision came in September 2025, despite strong opposition from residents during the public hearing. The company plans to develop five new data center buildings on a 333-acre site on Stamey Farm Road, currently owned by the Stamey Land Company.

The campus would span a total of 1.34 million square feet and would be powered by a nearby Duke Energy substation. Compass has stated that the facility will use air cooling to minimize water consumption.
