180-acre Data Center Set to be Built in Lyon Township, Michigan

Data center developer Cloverleaf is pursuing a new campus in Michigan, seeking to acquire township-owned land for a data center adjacent to the I-75 in Monroe County. The proposed site is the former River Raisin Golf Course. Initial site plans suggest that Cloverleaf could develop four data center buildings across 200 acres and intends to use a closed-loop cooling system.
The site, located at Dixie Highway, was previously an 18-hole golf course that closed around 2019. ProMedica purchased the land in 2016 for a new hospital but canceled those plans in 2023, selling the 275-acre site to the township earlier this year. The development is facing public resistance, evidenced by a Change.org petition against the data center proposals that has already collected more than 550 signatures.
