Project Blue, a massive 630 MW data center campus proposed by Beale Infrastructure and linked to Amazon Web Services (AWS), was withdrawn due to water constraints, despite a proposed investment of $3.6 billion.
The project was a planned 290-acre data center campus intended to be developed by Beale Infrastructure, a firm supported by alternative investment asset manager Blue Owl. The initial phase of this intended development was to be located in Pima County's Southeast Employment and Logistics Center.
While AWS was linked to the project (codenamed "Project Blue"), Beale Infrastructure had clarified that no final agreement was ever put in place with the tech giant. The scope was substantial, with reports suggesting plans for up to 10 buildings that would have totaled 2 million square feet (185,805 sqm).
Beale had publicly stated its intention to invest $3.6 billion into the development. Construction work on the first phase was originally scheduled to run from 2026 to 2029, with the first data center buildings potentially becoming operational in 2027.
