Amazon Data Services has officially filed a proposal with Buckinghamshire Council to redevelop the Ridgeway Distribution Centre in Iver into a 30,525 sqm data center campus, a move that signals a significant shift from the site's industrial past. Originally purchased from investment firm Abrdn for £132.5 million in 2022, the estate currently houses 17 units used for logistics and vehicle repairs, all of which will be demolished to make way for a single two-story facility and a generator yard featuring 27 back-up units.
This project forms a core part of Amazon’s massive £8 billion investment in UK digital infrastructure through 2028 and leverages Iver’s proximity to Slough, a major global data center hub. To manage environmental impact, the campus will utilize an advanced cooling strategy that relies on outside air and rainwater harvesting, switching to adiabatic cooling only during hotter periods to reduce strain on the local water supply.
