"Project Green" is a massive data center campus led by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in New Florence, Missouri, representing one of the largest private investments in the state's history. Spanning approximately 1,000 acres in the northeast quadrant of the I-70 and Highway 19 interchange, the project is slated for a two-phase build-out that could eventually feature up to 21 data center buildings and a capital investment of up to $35 billion.
While the Montgomery County Commission unanimously approved the project and a substantial incentive package in early 2026, the development is currently navigating a legal challenge from local residents concerned about transparency, water usage, and the impact on the rural community's character. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026, with the first facilities targeted to be operational by 2027.
