Data Center Campus
As of January 2026, the Nexstar/WGN data center project has expanded from its original 35-acre, three-building plan to a four-building campus utilizing a larger portion of the 102-acre transmitter site. The current specifications include two primary two-story facilities of approximately 334,000 and 339,000 square feet, a smaller 169,000-square-foot building, and a newly added fourth facility intended to bring the total campus footprint to over 1 million square feet.
While the original 2023 construction start was missed due to power availability issues, Elk Grove Village recently extended the groundbreaking deadline to September 30, 2027, and approved a new ComEd substation nearby to finally provide the necessary electrical capacity for the site.
