ESR Group: Cosmosquare Campus
ESR Group's three-building hyperscale data center campus in Cosmosquare, Nanko Kita, about 10 km from central Osaka, developed with joint-venture partner and operator CloudHQ. First built in 2024, with expansions planned through 2030.
Campus at a Glance
ESR's Cosmosquare campus sits in Nanko Kita, Suminoe-ku, on Osaka Bay's Sakishima island. It is about 10 km from the internet exchanges of central Osaka, between INTEX Osaka and the NTT Docomo Osaka Nanko building.
Land. ESR bought the site through a special-purpose company in April 2021. The purchase included an existing data center, IBM Japan's Osaka Nanko office, and the vacant land beside it. OS1 and OS2 occupy the former vacant parcel. OS3 redevelops the existing building after its current lease ends.
Ownership. In January 2025 ESR formed a joint venture with CloudHQ to build, fit out and operate the whole campus. CloudHQ markets the buildings as KIX1, KIX2 and KIX3. ESR Group went private in July 2025.
Design. NTT Facilities designed OS1 and Toda Construction built it. OS1 has a base-isolated steel frame, its own extra-high-voltage receiving substation and a generator room. Kansai Electric Power supplies the campus. OS1 holds LEED v4 BD+C: Data Centers Gold certification.
Milestones. ESR started OS1 in October 2022 and completed the core and shell in August 2024.
