Crusoe Temporarily Stops 1.8GW Data Center Build in Wyoming

Crusoe has paused development of Project Jade, a planned 1.8GW data center campus in Cheyenne, Wyoming that was announced last year and designed to potentially scale up to 10GW. The project was being developed in partnership with Blackstone-backed energy company Tallgrass. Crusoe said it has paused development at a customer’s request, without naming the client or giving a reason.

Crusoe said it has contracted 4.9GW of data center capacity for its Crusoe Cloud platform and claims a broader development pipeline exceeding 40GW, including contracted sites, active negotiations, and projects in advanced stages. Its US portfolio includes five AI data center campuses built for hyperscale customers. The flagship Abilene, Texas site originally tied to Oracle and OpenAI—lost its later-phase tenants due to delays, with Microsoft later taking over the remaining capacity.

"The demand from the world's leading technology companies for AI infrastructure – quickly and at scale – has never been greater, and Crusoe is uniquely positioned to meet it," said Chase Lochmiller, co-founder and CEO of Crusoe.

"We work shoulder to shoulder with our customers to move from vision to operational infrastructure at the speed AI demands. The nearly five gigawatts under contract is a reflection of the trust our customers have placed in Crusoe, and that’s a responsibility we take seriously. We're building the AI factories of the future and making sure every AI builder – from the most innovative AI startups to the world’s largest hyperscalers and enterprises – has the infrastructure to match their ambitions."
