European data center operator Virtus Data Centres has secured a £2.45 billion ($3.25bn) financing package from a consortium of 13 banks. BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, Société Générale, and Standard Chartered Bank acted as coordinators and lead arrangers. The funding will support the development and expansion of Virtus’ data centers across the UK and Europe, including its 78MW Saunderton campus in Buckinghamshire and future investment in London19 in Slough. The package includes a £1.2 billion ($1.6bn) green capex facility, available through term and revolving tranches.

Adam Eaton, Virtus CEO, said: “This financing marks an important milestone for Virtus. It reflects the strength and stability of our existing portfolio, our track record of delivery and the opportunities ahead. The capital flexibility it provides will enable us to continue investing in high-quality data centre infrastructure and support our ongoing growth across the European market.”

Virtus was advised by Simmons & Simmons, while the financing consortium was advised by Clifford Chance. UK-based Virtus operates 14 data centers across four campuses in Greater London and a fifth in Buckinghamshire, with additional projects under development in Germany and Italy. STT GDC acquired Virtus as a wholly owned subsidiary in 2017, while Macquarie Asset Management acquired a 40 percent stake in the company in 2023.
