Turkcell: Turkcell inaugurates new data center in Tekirdağ, Turkey

Turkcell recently inaugurated its new LEED Gold and Uptime Tier III-certified data center based in the Kapaklı district of Tekirdağ, Turkey. The facility has seen a $295 million investment and spans ​​37,277 sqm (400,000 sq ft) with 7,238 sqm (78,000 sq ft) of white space. 

Named the 'European Data Center," the facility will be powered in part by renewable energy sourced from 1,200 sqm of solar panels and will be physically resilient too, able to withstand magnitude nine earthquakes.

Turkcell's Chairman of the Board, Bülent Aksu, commented: "Turkey, which has become a gateway for Internet traffic; it has a key importance in the transportation and storage of data."


Adding: "At Turkcell, our aim is to make our country the world's leading 'data and cloud technologies base' by using the advanced and innovative technology of our company with this geographical superiority."

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening of the Turkcell European Data Center, and commented on the value of Turkish data center expansion: "Domestic data center investments are indispensable for the privacy of the data of our country, our citizens, and businesses that create value for this country."
