ThisWay Global plans a 73MW research and artificial intelligence computing center at the Texas A&M-RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas, reviving a $700 million project that stalled when its original developer filed for bankruptcy. The Austin company announced the Research and AI Compute Center (RACC) on October 8, after closing

ThisWay bought the unfinished development out of Chapter 11 for about $40 million, as Law360 reported.
RELLIS Campus Data and Research Center LLC filed for protection in November 2025, leaving a partly built shell on 25 acres of Texas A&M University System land.
The project is planned as a phased development with a roughly 230,000-square-foot data and research center. Its first building will carry about 25% of the campus's eventual compute, chief executive Stephan Fabel told Data Center Knowledge. The original design called for conventional colocation and air cooling. ThisWay says it will add closed-loop, direct-to-chip liquid cooling that runs a propylene glycol and water mix, a change aimed at high-density racks and HPC workloads.
Power remains the open question.
ThisWay has not disclosed how much capacity it has requested from Bryan Texas Utilities, and the company ties deployment to confirmed power availability and utility approvals. "RACC is planned as a phased development, with deployment tied to confirmed power availability and the applicable utility approvals," Fabel said.
ThisWay is funding the purchase with Texas-based Centaurus Capital, Skylar Capital Management and other investors. Brazos County commissioners approved a revised tax abatement for the site on August 18, collecting half of the property's taxable value for 10 years and the full value for the next 30, Community Impact reported. The agreement requires the company to pay for its own electrical infrastructure, use water-efficient technology and report its electricity and water use to the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
Baxtel tracks 780 data center facilities across Texas, operated by 185 providers, with 288 of them in the Dallas metro.
"RACC is an opportunity to demonstrate how AI and high-performance computing digital infrastructure can be developed as an accountable, governed institutional capability," said Angela Hood, founder and executive chairman of ThisWay Global.
The RELLIS deal shows how quickly distressed data center projects can find second owners while AI demand outruns ready power. The 73MW total is modest beside Texas's largest campuses, but the site comes with an existing building, a university research partner and public land already approved for the work. ThisWay's test is whether it can turn that position into energized capacity before the queue for utility approvals lengthens.
