Spanish energy firm Solaria Energia has formally launched its European sustainable data center platform. The platform includes approximately 3.4GW of secured grid power across 400 hectares (990 acres) spanning Spain, Italy, Germany, and the UK. In addition, the company has reportedly requested access to an additional 5GW of power and aims to find a financial partner for the project before summer next year.
Solaria also reported that it signed a deal with data center developer Merlin, which includes a 225MW data center that ensures grid access and the required electrical infrastructure. As part of the deal, the company also inked a 15-year solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 445MW of power with the real estate developer.
"Solaria takes another step forward in its transformation into an integrated energy and digital operator. With our new PPAs, European expansion and entry into the data center and storage businesses, we reinforce our commitment to the energy transition and Europe’s technological independence,” said José Arturo Díaz-Tejeiro Larrañaga, CEO of Solaria
