SenseTime opens Shanghai data center

SenseTime has announced the opening of a new $880 million data center in Shanghai, China. The facility, which the company first broke ground on in July 2020, spans 130,000 square meters (1.4 million sq ft), with 5,000 computer racks.
The Artificial Intelligence Data Center (AIDC) is located in the Lingang New Area of Shanghai, and is now reportedly online and operational.
Attending the opening ceremony, Dr. Xu Li, co-founder and CEO of SenseTime, said the launch is a “major milestone” in the company’s endeavour to build a “universal infrastructure for AI innovation.”
He added: “It provides the critical foundations and resources for us to drive digitalization and sustainable development in all walks of life with universal AI capabilities. Working towards our goal of developing a world-class AIDC, we will further open up SenseCore’s capabilities to both academia and industries to drive future AI productivity and foster a healthy, prosperous and inclusive AI ecosystem.”
