QTS has plans to expand its Richmond facility in Northern Virginia. The company filed to construct attendant structures and buildings at 6000 Technology Boulevard in Henrico County, Virginia. Per the application, the development project is called QTS East Expansion. The plan is to develop the new structures and buildings on an 80-acre part of an undeveloped 210-acre site.
According to the filing documents, QTS could develop up to four 15,500 square meters (167,000 square feet) two-story buildings on the land between its existing facility and Facebook's nearby data center. QTS acquired the land in 2010 for $12 million before converting it into a data center. The data center currently spans 120,800 square meters (1.3 million square feet). It also offers up to 110MW in capacity across three buildings. QTS also revealed that it owns up to 200 acres of land close to the facility, with an expansion capacity of one million square feet.
The company currently operates five data center campuses in Virginia. Three of these facilities are in the Ashburn area and one each in Manassas and Richmond.
