PowerX and Highreso Partner on Data Center and BESS Collaboration

Japanese battery energy storage system (BESS) developer PowerX and data center operator Highreso have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on deploying battery storage at Highreso's data centers and expanding its GPU data center business. Highreso operates the GPUSOROBAN GPU cloud service across five data centers in Japan's Ishikawa, Kagawa, and Saga prefectures.

The pair said that they would cooperate in “sales and marketing, joint development of projects and candidate sites, and partnerships with infrastructure investors and financial institutions.”

PowerX has been expanding its focus on the data center market, partnering with IIJ in February to explore containerized data centers integrated with battery storage before unveiling a rack-mounted BESS for data centers in May, with commercial availability planned for 2027. Highreso previously partnered with AI developer alt Inc. to launch a GPU cloud service in 2025, but the company later filed for bankruptcy and was delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange following allegations of fraudulent sales.PowerX_BESS.width-358.png
