Oracle has announced that it has launched a cloud region in the capital of Spain. The launch sees Oracle's total cloud region across the globe hit 40. This is the country's first region in the country. The general manager of Oracle Spain, Albert Triola, said: "Local organizations and public institutions are taking firm steps to establish Spain as a country focused on technology-driven innovation." He further added: "With the opening of the Oracle Cloud Madrid Region, we're reinforcing our commitment to help our customers take advantage of the best cloud technologies while enabling the highest security standards, availability, and performance."
Earlier in February, Oracle announced that it was teaming up with Telefonica for the Madrid, Spain region. Telefonica operates a 100MW Tier IV data center on the outskirts of Madrid. The Alcala CDG data center was developed in 2013 and spanned 23 data halls. Oracle has been busy with expansion this year as it opened its 37th cloud region in Johannesburg, South Africa, earlier in January. It also launched regions in Paris, France, and Queretaro, Mexico, in June. It plans to have a minimum of 44 cloud regions before the year runs out. Plans are already in place for new regions in Colombia, Chile, Israel, and Saudi Arabia this 2022.
