OpenAI's co-founder and president, Greg Brockman, has quit the company after the board suddenly fired CEO Sam Altman last week. Brockman, who was initially made to step down as board chairman, has left the company.
The board is yet to disclose the exact reason for firing Altman as the company only mentioned that "Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities."
Brockman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he sent the following message to OpenAI staffers after Altman’s abrupt outing from the company: "I'm super proud of what we’ve all built together since starting in my apartment 8 years ago. we’ve been through tough & great times together, accomplishing so much despite all the reasons it should have been impossible. But based on today’s news, I quit. Genuinely wishing you all nothing but the best. I continue to believe in the mission of creating safe AGI that benefits all of humanity."
Following reports from The Information, three researchers also quit the company: Jakub Pachocki, the company’s director of research; Aleksander Madry, head of a team evaluating potential risks from AI, and Szymon Sidor, a seven-year researcher at OpenAI.
