OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman fired from the company

Nov 19, 2023 | Posted by Abdul-Rahman Oladimeji

OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman has been fired as CEO of the artificial intelligence startup as the board denounces confidence in his leadership. In a statement released by the company, the board noted that it “no longer has confidence in his ability to lead.”

Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, has been named interim CEO effective immediately, pending the time the company is able to identify a permanent successor. Greg Brockman will continue to remain president of the company but will step down as chairman of the board.

The company noted in the blog post, “Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”

Altman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “I loved my time at OpenAI. it was transformative for me personally, and hopefully the world a little bit. most of all I loved working with such talented people. will have more to say about what’s next later."
