Singtel’s data center arm, Nxera, has topped out a new data center in Johor, Malaysia. Nxera CEO Bill Chang announced the topping-out ceremony on LinkedIn over the weekend.
“Really happy to see the rapid, smooth, and safe progress of the buildout of this large-scale AI DC specially designed to host some of the most demanding AI workloads in the industry,” Chang said.
TM Nxera, a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and Nxera, said: “This ceremony marks a significant milestone, reflecting the progress, effort, and dedication that have brought us to this stage. With the successful completion of the structural phase, we have taken an important step forward in bringing the TM Nxera data center to life.” Plans for the data center were first announced in June 2024, with the initial phase expected to deliver 64MW of capacity. The company broke ground on the facility in July of the same year. The first phase of the 280MW campus, located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, is scheduled to go live in 2026.
Alongside its sites in Singapore, Nxera is developing multiple facilities across Southeast Asia in partnership with local players and expects to expand its total capacity from 200MW to 400MW in the coming years. With additional facilities in Batam and Johor scheduled to come online in the second half of 2026, Nxera’s operational and pipeline capacity is expected to more than double from 200MW by 2026. In 2023, investment firm KKR acquired a 20% stake in Singtel’s data center business for $800 million. KKR and Singtel have also recently acquired a majority stake in APAC data center operator STT GDC.
