Riot: Rockdale, TX: Northern Data AG provides an update on Texas data center (PR)

Frankfurt am Main – June 10, 2020 – Northern Data AG (XETRA: NB2, ISIN: DE000A0SMU87), one of the world’s largest providers of high-performance computing (HPC) solutions, now expects to expand its new HPC data center in Texas in the first year to an operating capacity of 1,000 MW (1 gigawatt, GW). A further expansion to 3.6 GW is planned by 2023 at the latest.

“We are very proud to have successfully started up our data center in the second quarter,” said Aroosh Thillainathan, CEO of Northern Data AG. “We are currently ramping up our capacity as planned and build up in stages to now reach a capacity of one gigawatt by the end of the current year.”

The wholly-owned Northern Data subsidiary Whinstone US operates the world’s largest data center for HPC applications using an innovative cooling system and a self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) capable of covering an area of 40 hectares, corresponding to an expansion of around 57 soccer fields through the control of hundreds of thousands of high-performance computers operating in parallel.

The first customers of the data center, who are now operational, are large international corporations, including the multi-billion dollar Japanese SBI Group.

In view of recent positive developments, the company intends to provide investors updated guidance for 2020 together with an expanded outlook for 2021 in due course.
