AI cloud provider Nebius has signed an LOI with Volt to become the first offtaker at its planned AI Gigafactory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The campus is planned to deliver 600MW across six buildings, with the first phase comprising two 100MW data centers. The initial phase is expected to cost €7 billion ($7.8bn), including construction and computing hardware.
“We want Europe to be successful on the global stage,” said Arkady Volozh, CEO of Nebius. “As we continue to build out trusted AI infrastructure around the world, we are supporting the Rotterdam AI Gigafactory and working with leading Dutch entrepreneurs to strengthen the Netherlands’ independent AI capacity.”
Founded in 2015, Volt is leading the Netherlands’ bid to host one of five EU AI gigafactories planned to expand Europe’s computing capacity. CEO Han de Groot said the Rotterdam project will use electricity from nearby offshore wind farms to reduce pressure on the congested inland grid. Eneco will supply power to the facility. Nebius is expanding rapidly, having recently signed a 50MW lease with AIB Data Centers in the US. Its European capacity is operating or under development across Finland, the UK, France, Estonia, Iceland, and Spain.
