The Greek government has announced that it will develop a new data center powered by green energy. The data center will be called Knossos II. Greece's Minister of State and Digital Government, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, made the data center announcement when he visited the University of Crete. According to Pierrakakis, Knossos II will be five times larger than Knossos I. He also noted that funding received from the Fund for Recovery and Sustainability is pivotal to making the data center green.
Pierrakakis further noted that the Crete Region had signed a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Crete and the ministry on how to implement the development of the data center. He said: "I think this has a very strong both symbolic and real value in the field because, in the final analysis, such infrastructure can help unleash the country's significant potential. We chose Crete; we chose Heraklion, and we choose to liberate the potential of our homeland ". The minister did not reveal specific details about the data center.
