Greece-based data center firm Lamda Hellix has begun work on a new data center close to Athens. Lamda Hellix revealed that the Athens-3 facility would have a capacity of 20MW. The size will also make it the largest data center in Greece. Athens-3 will also have 8,600 square meters (92,500 square feet) of space. In addition, the facility will be built to Tier III standards. The firm plans to build the facility in phases, with the first phase (6.8MW) expected to be in operation in December 2022.

Lamda Hellix was acquired by Interxion last year, and this is the company’s first development since then. CEO and President of Lamda Hellix, Apostolos Kakkos, said he is delighted because Athens 3 will be the largest data center in Greece. He also added that the facility would help in speeding up the digital transformation of Greece. According to reports, the firm has invested €70 million ($80.8m) in developing the facility. Plans are also on the way for its Athens-4 data center.
