According to BizJournal, Microsoft is planning to expand its Leesburg data center campus in Loudoun County, Virginia, by developing two data centers. The two data centers will be called IAD02 and IAD03. The planned data centers will span 44,200 square meters (475,700 square feet). The data centers will be developed on the part of a 323-acre plot Microsoft acquired from the Peterson Cos. for $73 million.
The data center site is located next to the Leesburg Executive Airport. It is also situated south of the two existing Microsoft data centers called IAD01-1 and IAD01-2. According to BizJournals, Loudoun County approved the development application for the project in 2020. In light of this, Microsoft can proceed with the construction of the data centers when it gets the necessary approvals.
