Microsoft Azure: Microsoft expands in Sydney, Australia

Microsoft has announced its plans to expand in Sydney, Australia. The campus in Kemps Creek, according to AFR, will be worth $1.3 billion with a capacity of 190MW, spanning over 14.4 hectares. It is being built in a new industrial estate which is being developed by Frasers and Atlis Property Partners. 

Speaking to AFR, Frasers Property Industrial's executive general manager, Ian Barter, commented on the Kemps Creek location, saying: "Strong sector fundamentals, historically low vacancy and the limited land supply has created a perfect storm, and we expect the take-up of land in the Mamre Road, Kemps Creek precinct to happen a lot quicker than initially forecast."

While Microsoft is yet to reply to requests for comment, the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment's executive director and resource assessments, Clay Preshaw, said: "This proposal is the latest in a growing trend of rapid planning and development proposals of these in-demand facilities."

Adding: "Our increased reliance on digital technologies, particularly over the last 18 months, means the demand for the physical infrastructure underpinning these technologies is growing."
