According to Urban Developer, Microsoft has plans to build a new data center campus in Melbourne, Australia. The report shows that the company has drawn up proposals for the facility. Per the documents, Microsoft wants to develop a 243,000 square feet (22,500 square meters) facility at 20-28 Cawley Road in Yarraville, Victoria. The location for the facility is part of the 1.4 million square feet (130,000 square meters) site it bought from Time and Place last year for AU$90 million (US$66.8m).

Microsoft plans for a two-story building data center. It will include 12,900 square feet (1,200 square meters) of ancillary office area and 53,800 square feet (5,000 square meters) of data storage and plant area. The campus will be called MEL4. Currently, the company operates three Australian Azure cloud regions in Canberra, Victoria, and New South Wales.
