Meta plans to more than double its Richland Parish, Louisiana, data center campus to 5GW of capacity. The site, known as the Hyperion data center project, was previously planned as a 2GW development. Announced in late 2024, Hyperion was originally designed as a 4 million sq ft (372,000 sqm) campus across 2,250 acres. Meta later acquired an additional 1,400 acres of adjacent land in late 2025, expanding the project footprint. The campus was initially expected to include nine buildings delivered in phases through 2030, though updated plans and timelines have not yet been disclosed.

“This commitment from Meta puts Louisiana at the center of America’s future in artificial intelligence, positioning our nation to compete and lead globally. In just two years, we’ve secured more than $150 billion in new investment by creating an environment where companies can move quickly and build at scale. Projects like this don’t just grow our state’s economy, they ensure America continues to lead in the technologies that will define the next generation,” said Jeff Landry, Governor of Louisiana

Meta VP Rachel Peterson said the Hyperion project will drive local economic growth, with more than $1.6 billion contracted to local companies and thousands of jobs supported. Once operational, the campus is expected to support around 1,000 local jobs. Meta is also partnering with Entergy on new power generation, battery storage, and grid upgrades, which it estimates could save Louisiana customers $2 billion over 20 years.

Richland Parish is located in North Louisiana’s Delta region, an area that is not traditionally considered a major data center hub. Meta is rapidly expanding its data center footprint, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg stating that Meta Compute aims to develop tens of gigawatts of compute capacity this decade and hundreds of gigawatts over time. The company has also announced a $9.17bn data center campus in Alberta, Canada, and is exploring a cloud business leveraging its extensive GPU and data center infrastructure.Hyperion_Meta_Data_Center.width-358 (1).webp
