Facebook's Huntsville data center campus will reportedly top $1 billion following ongoing expansion. This announcement comes after the social media giant's initial investment of $750 million back in 2018.
Once completed, the facility will employ over 200 people, two times its expectation three years ago. In total, the campus will span 2.5 million sq ft, with four separate buildings of servers.
The Huntsville center will be supported by 100% renewable energy, and the two original buildings will be online by the end of 2021.
In a statement, Facebook said: "Construction of the third building is well underway, and construction is already starting for the rest of the campus," Facebook said in the announcement. "As of today, this campus has contributed over 5 million work hours to the Huntsville economy. Nearly 24,000 tons of steel have been erected and 500,000 cubic yards of concrete poured."
