LightEdge plans to develop a colocation data center on ten acres in Boone Business Park, Iowa, about 48 miles northwest of Des Moines.
The Boone County Economic Growth Corporation has signed a letter of intent for the land sale. The city’s planning commission has approved the site plan for recommendation to the city council. LightEdge will not seek tax incentives for the project at 1920 Lakewood Drive.

“We believe this represents an outstanding economic development opportunity for Boone,” Brenda Dreyer, executive director of the BCEGC, said last month. “The project would be located on land that was developed for industrial purposes more than 20 years ago, would make use of existing infrastructure, and would provide new employment and tax-base opportunities for the community. BCEGC and LightEdge are committed to answering residents’ questions directly and openly throughout the process.”

Alliant could eventually supply up to 46MW to the Boone facility, though LightEdge plans to scale gradually based on demand. The site will use closed-loop cooling to reduce water consumption. Founded in 1996, LightEdge operates more than a dozen data centers across seven US states. GI Partners acquired the company in 2021. In April, LightEdge also acquired a reportedly fully pre-leased 3MW data center in Kansas City, Missouri.
