An unnamed company is planning a data center campus on a 46-acre site off Highway 61, south of Maquoketa in eastern Iowa, according to local media reports from WQAD News 8 and KWQC 6.
Maquoketa, in eastern Iowa's Jackson County, is being considered for a small- to mid-sized data center campus on a 46-acre site. According to city council documents, the project has yet to secure an end user and will not be used for cryptocurrency operations.
The proposed site is located within Maquoketa's industrial park and is already zoned for heavy industrial use. The 46-acre parcel could be sold for about $1.15 million, with city officials saying the developer is not requesting incentives and will cover any necessary infrastructure upgrades. Despite the projected economic benefits, several residents voiced opposition to the project during this week's city council meeting.
