Kao Data has announced plans to develop a new data center in Manchester, UK. The facility, located in Kenwood Point, will offer a capacity of 40 MW and will be the first Kao data center to be built in the North of England.

Based on a 39,000 sqm (419,800 sq ft) ex-industrial site, the facility will have nine data center halls, and be powered entirely by renewable energy.

With an injection of £350 million ($440m), the facility will reportedly be OCP-Ready and Nvidia-DGX Ready certified, with a PUE of 1.2. Kao, the first data center company in the UK to power its generators with HVO, will also be employing the fuel at its Manchester data center. The company shared that it will employ heat re-use capabilities, however it did not share further details about this.

“Our move into Manchester marks an important next step in the continued evolution of our organization, and we’re excited to bring our industry-leading data center platform to one of the UK’s most influential technology and business hubs,” said Spencer Lamb, chief commercial officer, Kao Data.

Adding: “We believe our new facility will set a new standard for sustainable data centers within the region and will provide a piece of foundational infrastructure that supports both Northern England’s advanced computing clusters, and the UK Governments’ ambitions to become a technological and economic powerhouse for HPC and AI.”
