Iron Mountain is targeting a new data center development outside Austin, Texas. First reported by BizJournal, the company is targeting a campus outside the city of Hutto in Williamson County.
The Hutto City Council last week reviewed a presentation from Iron Mountain on its Taylor Meadows data center project as part of a sewer service request. The proposed development spans roughly 500 acres off FM3349, between Norman Crossing and Samsung’s planned semiconductor site in Taylor.
Details remain limited, but the project could include up to seven buildings and an on-site substation. The first grid-connected facilities may go live around 2030, with natural gas behind-the-meter options being considered to accelerate capacity. The site would use a closed-loop cooling system, and Iron Mountain said the data centers would consume less water than a previously proposed residential development for part of the land.
Across the US the firm has data centers in operation and development across Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Kansas City, Missouri; Miami, Florida; Edison, New Jersey; Dayton, Ohio; Boyers, Pennsylvania; Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; and Manassas and Richmond, Virginia.
