Google and state officials announced on Wednesday that the company intends to construct two additional data centers in Ohio to support its artificial intelligence equipment and other tools. According to officials, with one data center already operational in the Columbus area, Google's total investment in Ohio will exceed $2 billion. Ohio is experiencing a surge of significant technology industry investments. Just recently, Intel disclosed that it is constructing a $20 billion chip factory just east of Columbus. Also, Honda and LG Energy Solution of South Korea is constructing a $3.5 billion battery complex between Columbus and Cincinnati that will serve as the automaker's North American electric vehicle hub. That isn’t all; Facebook and Amazon also operate data centers in the vicinity of Columbus. The construction of the two new Google data centers will be in Columbus and Lancaster.

According to a statement from the state's governor, Mike DeWine, Ohio is an evolving technology hub and data center market. He added that the state welcomes these two new Google initiatives in Columbus and Lancaster in addition to the one already in New Albany. Mark Isakowitz, Google's director of government affairs in the United States and Canada, declined to disclose how many jobs would be created, but he did say that data centers typically employ approximately 50 people at the opening, with that number increasing as the center grows. "If you look at some of the sites we have around the country, it's hundreds and hundreds of people as you build and grow," he said.

The proliferation of data centers across the United States has become a welcome revenue source for local administrations. However, they also require a substantial quantity of electricity and transmission lines with high voltage. The largest concentration of data centers is located in Northern Virginia, where there has been an increase in complaints regarding the incessant noise of cooling fans.
