Google has announced a significant slow down in new staff hires. Bloomberg published an email from CEO Sundar Pichai which details its plan to recalibrate hiring because of the economic slowdown.

In 2019, Google hired 20,000 people and had planned to hire an additional 20,000 employees. The company already hired 4,000 new employees in Q1.

Google had planned to invest $10bn in US data centers and offices the year, slightly down from its $13bn spend in 2019. In September 2019, the company said it would spend $3.3 billion on data centers over the next two years.
