Equinix Munich MU4: Equinix Opens New $90 million Data Center In Munich

Equinix has announced the opening of a new facility in Ascheim, outside Munich, Germany. The company unveiled the opening of the International Business Exchange (IBX) called MU4. Equinix invested $90 million in the development of MU4’s first phase. The facility offers over 24,200 square feet (2,250 square meters) of colocation space. It also provides more than 825 cabinets of capacity. The President of EMEA, Equinix, Eugene Bergen Henegouwen, said Munich is one of Europe’s top manufacturing, automotive, and tech hubs, making it the base of some of the most innovative businesses in the world.
Henegouwen added that the presence of world class companies in Munich makes it a strategic location to invest and grow in. He noted that Equinix is happy to start the year by expanding in Germany. MU4 will be powered by 100% green energy. Equinix also revealed that the next development phase of the facility will involve the installation of an Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage system. The system will allow the storage and recovery of thermal energy. The company is also looking into other options to provide waste heat from the data center to external consumers in the future.
