Equinix has announced that it will be developing its third data center in Mumbai, India. The data center giant said it would invest over $86 million to develop the data center. According to the company, the data center will be housed on four-acre land. The data center will be located in Chandivali, Mumbai’s commercial district. The new data center (MB3 International Business Exchange) will be adjacent to Equinix’s existing MB2 IBX data center.

The data center’s first phase is scheduled to be completed in Q2 2024. The facility will also provide over 1,375 cabinets initially and over 4,150 cabinets upon full build-out. Equinix India’s managing director, Manoj Paul, said the company is committed to bringing more investments into India to help develop the country’s digital infrastructure. According to him, the investments will enable their Indian customers to launch their services closer to their consumers.

Equinix first ventured into the Indian data center market by acquiring GPX Global Systems. The acquisition closed in September 2021, and it saw Equinix take over two data centers named Equinix MB1 and MB2. The deal was worth $161 million. According to Manoj Paul, MB3 will be the largest data center in India.
