Equinix has expanded in Japan by opening a new data center in Osaka called OS3. In Phase 1, the IBX facility will provide more than 33,000 square feet (3,070 square meters) of colocation space and 900 racks. OS3 will offer over 89,300 square feet (8,300 square meters) of colocation space and 2,500 racks upon full build-out. In November last year, Equinix first announced its plans to invest $55 million in developing a new Osaka data center.
Equinix currently operates OS1 facility in Osaka. It also transferred its OS2 and TY12 facility with development rights plus more land for developing a new data center in Tokyo to a JV with GIC last year. Jeremy Deutsche, president of the Asia Pacific Ocean region at Equinix, said Osaka is one of the fastest-growing cities in the Asia-Pacific Ocean region, making it a choice destination for digital infrastructure. He added that opening the OS3 facility would help increase Equinix’s presence in the region.
The OS3 facility is located in the 16-story Keihanshin OBP Building in Osaka. The facility is also connected directly to OS1.
