Chicago: Edged Energy begins work on Chicago facility

Edged Energy has announced that work has commenced on its new facility in the Aurora area of west Chicago, Illinois.

Together, with Seefried Industrial Properties, Inc., the company broke ground on the new 65-acre, multi-building data center campus, its first in Illinois, and nearby CyrusOne facilities and a ComEd substation.

The company has shared that the project will see the construction of three buildings in three phases, the first due to be completed by June 2024. The company did not share specifics around size by outlined that building 2 will be the largest of the three and double the size of Building 1. 

Edged said that the project will offer a number of sustainability features, including waterless cooling technology, on-site solar, and EV charge points. It will also utilize 'alternative' fuels for its backup power, and operate at a PUE of 1.15.

Edged Energy also shared that either Apple, Google, Microsoft, or Amazon will anchor the data center.
