DPS Energy a subsidiary of Malaysian investment holding company DPS Resources and Hangzhou Xinfengwei Network, an affiliate of Alibaba, are exploring plans to develop data centers in Melaka, Malaysia. The companies announced last Wednesday that they have signed a memorandum of understanding to assess the feasibility of a project that could deliver between 150MW and 180MW of capacity, at an estimated development cost of $7.5 million per megawatt
Based on these estimates, the project could carry a total cost of between $1.1 billion and $1.35 billion. Under the proposed arrangement, DPS Energy would oversee development, including land, power, and supporting infrastructure, while Hangzhou Xinfengwei would handle day-to-day operations and business management.
DPS Resources is a Malaysian conglomerate with diversified interests spanning construction, building materials manufacturing, property development, hotel management, and more. DPS Energy is one of its subsidiaries, focused on energy production, battery storage, and related infrastructure. Hangzhou Xinfengwei Network is a joint venture between Alibaba and Xinfengwei, an AI cloud provider.
