Data Center Oil Leak Contaminates Water In Bangkok, Thailand

An oil leak at a Bangkok data center contaminated 32 cubic meters of water but has now been cleaned up. Thailand’s Pollution Control Department said the leak, reportedly from Damac Digital Thailand’s BKK 01 facility on Rama 9 Road, was successfully contained. An emergency cleanup began Monday evening after nearby residents reported oil and chemical odors coming from drains.

Response teams used oil-absorbing booms to contain the spill before applying an eco-friendly solution to break down the oil. Damac Digital contractors removed 32 cubic meters of contaminated water and sludge. The PCD found no remaining volatile organic compounds or hydrogen sulphide in the air but will continue monitoring the area.

Formerly known as Edgnex, Damac Digital is the data center arm of UAE-based property firm Damac. Founded in 2021, it began operations with a 12MW campus in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Damac announced the Bangkok project in 2024, planning two 10MW data center buildings.
