CyrusOne, a data center REIT, acquired five acres of land in Madrid, Spain, to build a new data center. The Company’s recent earnings report showed that it acquired this land in Alcobendas, Madrid. CyrusOne also revealed earlier in the week that it acquired the land to build a new data center.

The facility will be a single two-story building, and it will have a total capacity of 21MW, with a total technical space of 6,000 sqm (64,584 sq ft). EVP and MD of Europe at CyrusOne, Matt Pullen, commented that there had been a significant boost of data center capacity in Spain in the last couple of years. Madrid also remains one of the fastest-growing European data center markets.

Matt Pullen also noted that the Company’s investment in Spain is another step in expanding its footprint across Europe to provide capacity, coverage, and connectivity to support its customers. CyrusOne also announced that the new facility would use 100% renewable energy. It will also generate 100kW onsite power through on-roof solar PV panels.
