Banglalink Deploys Rooftop Solar Array At Data Center In Cumilla, Bangladesh

Banglalink has installed a 50kW rooftop solar array at its Cumilla data center, covering 2,500 sq ft and expected to generate 85,000kWh annually. The system could cut grid electricity use by 6% and reduce carbon emissions by 52 tons per year. The company also operates an 80kW solar array at its Gazipur data center.

“By integrating solar power into our critical operations, we are reducing emissions, optimizing energy costs, and strengthening the long-term sustainability of our network,” said Hüseyin Türker, chief technology and information officer of Banglalink. “At Banglalink, sustainability is not just an environmental commitment; it is a business imperative.”

Banglalink, Bangladesh’s third-largest mobile operator, is fully owned by Dubai-based telecom group Veon. The company shut down its 3G network in 2024 to focus on 4G expansion, following the $100 million sale of 2,000 telecom towers to Summit Towers. On-site solar is also gaining traction among telecom and data center operators, with Oman Data Park developing a 1.4MW solar project for its KOM 4 data center.
