DayOne, TNB Plan 1.5GW Onsite Power For Selangor Data Center

DayOne has partnered with TNB Power Generation to explore up to 1.5GW of on-site power generation and battery storage for its planned data center in Selangor, Malaysia. The partnership was formalized through a non-binding MoU, with the final capacity and configuration subject to feasibility studies, agreements, and regulatory approvals.

“Malaysia is central to DayOne's growth, and we continue to deepen our presence in Greater Kuala Lumpur as we scale to meet accelerating AI and cloud demand. Together with TNB, we are exploring an integrated approach that combines on-site power generation and a battery energy storage system (BESS) directly with our data center infrastructure,” Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, said. “This model is designed to add new capacity and enhance system flexibility that supports our growth while contributing to Malaysia's energy resilience and long-term sustainability.”

DayOne’s Selangor campus is still in early development after the company acquired 78.8 acres from Mah Sing last month, with the deal expected to close in H2 2027. Spun out of GDS in 2025, DayOne has more than 500MW of data center capacity in service or under construction, plus another 500MW planned across Asia-Pacific. The TNB partnership builds on earlier agreements, including a 1.5GW solar and 2.2GWh battery storage deal signed in June and a previous 500MW solar deal for two Malaysian data centers.
