Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be leasing land in Navi Mumbai, India, for a new data facility. The Hindustan Times reports that Amazon Data Services (an Indian subsidiary) has subleased a 451,000-square-foot site in the TTC industrial area in Bonsari, Airoli, for 15 years to construct a data center. The location of the premises will be in a ground plus seven-story building, per the agreement between Amazon and Newfound Properties and Leasing Private Limited. An expansion option is included in the 180-month lease that begins in August 2023. According to reports, AWS charges a $755,000 monthly rent.

According to a recent report by JLL, the data center industry in India grew from 350MW in 2019 to 722MW in 2022. AWS maintains two cloud regions in the Indian cities of Mumbai and Hyderabad. Local Zones are planned for Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, with the first Local Zone launching in Delhi in October last year. Currently, there are 33 Amazon CloudFront Edge locations in India: 10 in Mumbai, 7 in New Delhi, 7 in Chennai, 7 in Bangalore, 3 in Hyderabad, and 2 in Kolkata. In August 2022, the company leased from the Indian conglomerate Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) 5.5 acres in the Powai neighborhood of Mumbai, which will house a data center.
