Amazon Data Services is leasing 5.5 acres of land from Larsen & Toubro Ltd outside Mumbai. The lease is to run for 21 years and 6 months. According to Propstack, the property documents show that Amazon is looking to develop a data center on the leased land. Amazon will be paying $451,532 per month as rent. It will also pay a $12.5 million deposit.

The co-founder of Propstack, Raja Seetharaman, said Amazon’s planned data center would be a major driver of the city economy. According to him, it is particularly important that Amazon chose to be in the center of the Mumbai business district as opposed to the trend of developing data centers on the outskirts of cities. AWS launched a data center region in Mumbai in 2016. The region also has three availability zones. In addition, AWS is currently working on launching a new region in Hyderabad, India.
