UK-based power solutions provider AVK has launched a modular power system aimed at the hyperscale and AI data center market. The AVK PowerPod is a fully integrated, pre-engineered solution delivered as a transportable modular unit. It combines an engine for power generation with switchgear, UPS, controls, and enclosures. According to the company, the system can operate either connected to the grid or entirely off-grid, offering flexibility for data center operators.
Commenting on the launch, Ben Pritchard, CEO of AVK, said: “The launch of the AVK PowerPods reinforces our position as one of the few businesses capable of designing, delivering, and supporting the entire data center power ecosystem – at scale, with true flexibility and with the engineering depth that critical infrastructure demands. Large data centers need partners who genuinely understand the full energy picture, and we now own the full power train.
“PowerPods complete our proposition to the market. They bring together our extensive critical power expertise with our technology-agnostic model to deliver a complete power train solution that makes us a reliable, long-term energy partner for data center operators. With our ready-to-deploy PowerPods model, we are perfectly positioned to support the next wave of hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure.”
AVK is a major supplier of generator units for the data center sector. In March 2024, the company signed its first microgrid agreement with a data center provider in Ireland as part of a broader collaboration with European renewable energy developer Wärtsilä. Under the agreement, AVK will design and install on-site natural gas power generation, while Wärtsilä provides engineered equipment and ongoing maintenance support.
