Asterion and Telefónica are reportedly considering the sale of Nabiax, a Latin American data center company. According to Reuters, infrastructure fund Asterion Industrial Partners, which owns 80 percent of Nabiax, has enlisted the services of bankers from BBVA BBVA.MC and Citigroup C.N. to evaluate interest in its stake. The sale process is anticipated to begin after the summer. According to unnamed sources familiar with the matter, a transaction could value Nabiax at nearly $1.12 billion.
Asterion Industrial Partners established Nabiax in 2019 after purchasing 11 data centers from Telefónica for $616 million. The agreement encompassed 29MW in seven countries: two each in Argentina, Spain, Brazil, and Peru, as well as isolated sites in Chile, Mexico, and the United States. Nabiax was subsequently established to provide colocation and hosting services throughout Spain and Latin America.
In May 2021, Telefónica announced that it had sold four additional data facilities to Asterion Industrial Partners in exchange for a 20 percent stake in its Nabiax hosting business. These four data centers included two facilities in Chile and two locations in Spain; Madrid and Terrassa. Telefónica maintains a minority interest in Nabiax and is the facility's anchor tenant.
Earlier this year, Asterion and Telefónica began selling off portions of Nabiax. In March 2023, the investment firm Actis reportedly paid approximately $500 million to acquire 11 data centers across six countries in Latin America and the United States from Nabiax. On its website, Nabiax still lists these Latin American facilities.
