Actis and Nabiax, a European data center provider owned by Asterion Industrial Partners and Telefónica, have agreed for Actis to purchase 11 data centers spread across six countries in South America and the US. Actis will take complete ownership of the data centers upon settlement. Actis will own the data centers in the Americas, with locations in Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and a small exposure in the US (Florida). Asterion Industrial Partners, which purchased Telefonica's data center assets four years ago, will continue to possess, operate and grow the European assets. With room to grow, the 11 sites' aggregate IT load capacity is 23 MW. Telefonica, which has a long-term lease on the property, created the assets for their operations and clients.

With over US$1 billion now committed to the sector, this deal marks Actis' sixth investment in the digital infrastructure market. It completes its portfolio of five existing data center platforms in Asia and Africa. Over the next five years, the market for data centers in Latin America is expected to expand by 2.5 times, driven by factors such as the continued growth in data production and consumption, the adoption of cloud computing and storage, trends in outsourced co-location, big data, and artificial intelligence.

The acquisition of these core assets for their pan-Latam Data Center platform has extended Actis' presence in the field of digital infrastructure, according to partner Mauricio Giusti at the company's Sao Paulo office. As a significant user of the platform and to position the data centers as carrier-neutral facilities, they are also thrilled to collaborate with Telefonica in the area. Data centers are essential for bridging communities, fostering economic development, and facilitating access to knowledge and education.
